My Thoughts

When I first read the synopsis, I was extremely intrigued by it. And having heard so much about Silvera’s writing in the bookstagram community, my interests were piqued further.

But I was utterly let down by the book.

Disliked

The world-building was meh. It didn’t have substance to it. Something was really missing (at least to me). And parts of the books were left out, like the origins of the phoenix.

I wish he had paid more attention to detail and world-building. That’s what YA Fantasy is about. World-building is extremely crucial in the fantasy genre. Compared to contemporary fiction.

I am afraid to say more.

But hey, just coz this wasn’t my cup of tea, doesn’t mean you would not enjoy it. This book will be available in all good bookstores ion 14 January 2020

Synopsis

Balancing epic and intensely personal stakes, bestselling author Adam Silvera’s Infinity Son is a gritty, fast-paced adventure about two brothers caught up in a magical war, generations in the making.

Growing up in New York, brothers Emil and Brighton always idolized the Spell Walkers—a vigilante group sworn to rid the world of spectres. While the Spell Walkers and other celestials are born with powers, spectres take them, violently stealing the essence of endangered magical creatures.

Brighton wishes he had power so he could join the fray. Emil just wants the fighting to stop. The cycle of violence has taken a toll, making it harder for anyone with the power to live peacefully and openly. In this climate of fear, a gang of spectres has been growing bolder by the day.

Then, in a brawl after a protest, Emil manifests a power of his own—one that puts him right at the heart of the conflict and sets him up to be the heroic Spell Walker Brighton always wanted to be.

Brotherhood, love, and loyalty will be put to the test, and no one will escape the fight unscathed.
